Rome mayor bans use of firecrackers and bangers over New Year.
Rome has banned the use of firecrackers and bangers from 00.01 on 31 December 2018 until midnight on 1 January 2019, following an order signed by the city's mayor Virginia Raggi.
The last-minute ban on petardi and botti, which excludes the use of safer and less noisy fireworks, covers the entire area of Rome.
The mayor says the New Year legislation has been introduced for safety reasons as well as to avoid negative effects on pets.
The order follows a ban on glass bottles in the Circus Maximus area for the duration of the New Year celebrations.
