No more child soldiers.
Sunday, 20 June (20.00) marks the second annual Concerto di Solidariet in Rome for the people of northern Uganda to help one-time child soldiers who are victims of the civil conflict in the area. The concert will be held at the Teatro Seraphicum, Via del Serafico 1, near Metro B Laurentina station in EUR.
The concert, will feature the Strada Banda from the Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio, MISHMASH, that specialises in Mediterranean and oriental ethnic music and Walter Maestosi, a former theatre and television personality who will recite from the La Divina Comedia.
This fundraising event will help the Comboni missionaries in Gulu diocese of northern Uganda to provide medical care, psychological rehabilitation and education to ex-child soldiers who are victims of the seemingly unending conflict and war between the Ugandan army and the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) rebel group.
Funds collected in 2003 (18,000) were used to build of a school and a medical centre in northern Uganda . With continued assistance it is hoped that the number of child soldiers will be drastically reduced.
