Consent to organ donation to appear on Rome's carte d'identità
Rome residents can now give their consent to organ donation when obtaining or renewing their carte d'identità.
When applying for new identification cards, residents can choose whether they wish to have the words "donatore di organi e tessuti" (donor of organs and tissue) to appear on the back of the document.
The service, available from town halls throughout Rome, was presented by the city's mayor Ignazio Marino on 23 February.
"Rome is the first metropolitan city to finally introduce this service", the mayor said, "promoting a gesture that costs nothing and that can change the lives of many people."
