Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno has inaugurated the first section of the so-called Parco Lineare delle Mura Aureliane in the southeastern part of the city. The project so far consists of 500 m of grass, trees and parallel pedestrian and cycle paths running along the ancient Aurelian walls from Porta Metronia to Via Numidia. Work on the second section, along the stretch of wall from Via Numidia to Porta Latina, is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2010, and in due course the city council hopes to extend the park as far as Via Campo Boario in Testaccio at a total cost of
