Piazza della Pilotta for pedestrians.
The centre of Piazza della Pilotta between Fontana di Trevi and Piazza Venezia has finally become a pedestrian area after years of work and at a cost of around 500 million. The newly re-paved square, home to the Pontifical Gregorian University, now has an island in its centre with plants, bordered by ornamental stone balls to prevent cars from entering. Six new cast iron street lamps have also been installed. It is thought that the restoration will be completed with a centre-piece; either a fountain or a sculpture.
However the square is not totally closed to traffic. There are 20 parking spaces around the side of the piazza for residents in the area.
