Policing the railways.
Two-wheeled railway police.
Seventy two electric scooters for the police have been introduced at 52 railway stations across Italy, including Stazione Termini in Rome. The idea is to make policing quicker and more versatile in areas prone to both crime and terrorist attacks. The Segway, as the scooter is called, is a self-balancing two-wheeler that can run for eight hours without having to re-charge its batteries and can reach a speed of 20 kph The scooter is designed to cover a large, crowded area quickly and without danger to passengers. A new type of Segway for rougher terrain is now being tested.
