Public transport difficulties in Rome during the G8.
Public transport strikes are scheduled for Rome on 7-8 July.
On 7 July there are possible stoppages until the end of service called by the grass-roots members of the independent unions Cub, Cobas and Sdl in protest against the lack of safety on the railways.
The strike action comes in response to the disaster at Viareggio on 29 June when a train carrying liquid gas derailed and exploded in the station, killing 22 people. The state funeral for the victims killed by the fireball was held on 7 July, attended by a crowd of over 30,000 mourners, the president of the republic, Giorgio Napolitano, and the heads of both houses of parliament. Another 12 people remain on the critical list.
The strike affects services by Atac, Trambus, Met.Ro and Tevere Tpl on the city
