Public transport strike in Rome
As part of the public transport strike in Rome on Friday 27 January, workers from various trade unions are marching from Piazza Republic to Piazza S. Giovanni, resulting in a number of road closures.
The unions are protesting over a package of economic reforms announced by the Italian premier Mario Monti .
Metro A and B are still open but are running a limited service; likewise on the Roma-Lido, Termini-Giardinetti and Rome-Viterbo train routes. Many metro stations are not operating elevators and escalators due to lack of staff.
The strike is effective from 08.30 to 17.00 and from 20.00 until end of service. Rome's bus provider Atac joined the strike from 09.00, although there were some buses still collecting passengers after this time.
