Recycling rubbish increases in Trastevere.
Rubbish collection in the Trastevere area of Rome has altered in the past months, since AMA, the city rubbish collection company, instituted an experimental system. Instead of communal bins on the street, the rubbish, which has to be divided into three separate containers, is being collected door-to-door.
Normal household rubbish is collected from the condominium bins every day from Mon to Sat 07.00-11.00, paper and cardboard in a second separate bin is collected once a week and glass, plastic and metal is collected on two days of the week. There are different collection systems for offices, shops and restaurants. During the trial period there has been a 25 per cent increase in the division of rubbish, although many residents do not like to have their refuse stored within the condominium, particularly in hot weather. AMA will now extend the system to Viale di Trastevere, where the rubbish bins on the street will gradually disappear.
