Richard Long
Long, of the land-art generation, took long walks in Scotland, Tibet and other spectacular landscapes and built loving rings of stone and other mysterious marks and cairns in their midst. In this new gallery he only shows wooden panels on which he has made drippy marks with mud from the Tiber. He did them with his hands, some in seemingly wild rhythm, some with his whole hand, some with the tips of his fingers. These boards are too pat and neat, just decorative patterns to advertise his large monuments in nature. There are 11 of them and Long happily told me it took only a week to make them.
