Rome announces Christmas traffic restrictions.
Rome city council has announced a holiday traffic regime intended to reduce traffic and facilitate shopping in the historic centre.
From 6 to 24 December, day-time traffic restrictions into the centre known as the ZTL (Zona di Traffico Limitato) will be extended by two hours, ending at 20.00 instead of at 18.00, from Monday through Saturday. As many shops in the centre will be open on Sundays in December, a special Sunday ZTL will come into effect between 14.00 and 18.00. The night-time ZTL from 23.00 to 03.00 will remain in effect.
Between those hours, city officials say that regular public transport will increase service to the historic centre with more buses, trams and metro trains departing more frequently. In addition, a temporary, free shuttle termed the
