Great Britian in Rome. Prince Harry to attend event at MAXXI
Rome's Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo MAXXI is holding a day-long event dedicated to British culture on 18 May. Entitled Great Britain in Rome, the family-friendly occasion is a celebration of British music, art, dance and film, with educational and cultural activities for adults and children alike.
Guest of honour is Britain's Prince Harry who will unveil the winning design for the UK pavilion at Milan EXPO 2015, during a private ceremony at MAXXI.
The finalists are AL_A; Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and Studio Myerscough; Asif Khan; Barber Osgerby; David Kohn Architects; Grant Associates; Paul Cocksedge Studio; Wolfgang Buttress Studio.
British ambassador to Italy Christopher Prentice said that he was particularly grateful that the event was being hosted at MAXXI, noting that the museum was designed by London-based architect Zaha Hadid. Ambassador Prentice also acknowledged that the presence of Prince Harry would, for just a few hours, make the MAXXI the "casa romana" of the Milan EXPO.
The initiative is co-ordinated by the British embassy in Rome in collaboration with other British organisations in Italy and is open to all, from 11.00 until dusk. For full details see programme or the event's Facebook page.
