Rome and Vatican co-organise 2019 Rome Half Marathon Via Pacis.
The third edition of the Rome Half Marathon Via Pacis, whose core principles are "peace, integration, inclusion and solidarity", is scheduled for Sunday 22 September.
The event is organised by Rome city authorities and the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Culture, in collaboration with the Italian Athletics Federation and Italy's Olympic committee, and is open to all who oppose "violence, racism and discrimination", according to organisers.
This year Via Pacis is supported by the embassies of the United Arab Emirates, which is marking the Year of Tolerance ahead of the Dubai Expo 2020, and India, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi.
The 2019 event will also see the participation of runners from
Athletica Vaticana, the Vatican's athletics team comprising priests, nuns and Swiss Guards.
The 21-km race begins at Via della Conciliazione at 09.00 with the route incorporating sites associated with various religious denominations including St Peter's, the Synagogue, the Mosque, the Valdese Church and the Orthodox Church.
There is also a non-competitive 5-km run, called Run For Peace, starting at 09.30.
