Controversy over AMA employee cleaning taxi in Rome's Piazza del Popolo.

Consumer agency Codacons has called for an investigation after a uniformed employee of Rome's rubbish collection agency AMA Roma was filmed cleaning a taxi in Piazza del Popolo on 31 May, the morning after a nationwide refuse collection strike.

Codacons has asked prosecutors to investigate why an AMA worker used city cleaning equipment and a "large amount of water" to power-hose a parked taxi in the historic piazza in central Rome, in full view of passersby.

The agency has also filed an official complaint about the incident to the city's cultural heritage superintendent and the Lazio audit court.
