Rome runs in memory of Ethiopian soldier.
There will be an 11 km race in Rome at midnight on Sunday 11 September starting from the Campidoglio and ending under the Arch of Constantine. The "Corriroma" competition is organised by the Italian Marathon Club and it costs 3 to participate. Simultaneously there will be a non-competitive walk of 2 km, the registration for which is 1. All proceeds will go to the "We are the children" project for children in Rwanda.
The race commemorates the 45th anniversary of the Olympic marathon in Rome won by Abebe Bikila's a soldier of the Ethiopian Imperial Guard. Bikila broke the then marathon world record coming under the finishing line under the Arch of Constantine in 2 hours, 16 minutes and 20 seconds. The record currently stands at 2 hours, 4 minutes and 53 seconds.
