Netflix sponsored last year's Christmas tree in Rome.
Rome is seeking a sponsor for this year's Christmas tree, to be installed in the central Piazza Venezia from 8 December until 6 January 2020.The goal is to "repeat or better still improve on the success" of last year's tree, sponsored by American media services provider Netflix, according to the city's councillor for sport, youth policies and major events, Daniele Frongia.
The city also points out that the tender valued at "not less than €400,00" will cover the installation and decoration of the tree, without incurring any cost to the capital.
Last year's Christmas tree, which was well received universally, was the subject of much media focus particularly given the attention caused by its predecessor in 2017.
Dubbed 'Spelacchio', due to its "manginess", Rome's weedy-looking Christmas tree gained negative headlines around the world but eventually won the affection of Romans.
