World's top beach volleyball teams will come to Rome in 2021.
Rome will be the host city of the 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) has announced.
The Rome championships are described as central to a joint strategy by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV), backed by CONI, to develop beach volleyball in Italy.
However, despite the sport's name, the championships will be played in a sand-filled Foro Italico and not on Rome's beaches.
The tournament is scheduled from 4-8 September 2021 and will see 32 world teams, per gender, battle it out for a total prize prize jackpot of $600,000.
