Rome welcomes George the armadillo
The Bioparco's newest resident has presented his credentials to the public. Baby armadillo George has surfaced from the burrow in which he was born about two months ago, and can now be seen with his parents Emma and Charlie. Visitors to the zoo can observe George exploring his new surroundings at his enclosure near the ticket office in front of the coffee shop.
The armour-shelled creatures are equipped with powerful claws to help them dig for worms and grubs, and although they have large eyes they have poor vision. There are about 20 species of armadillo, all of which are native to the Americas.
