Rome’s Capitoline Museums get smart
Rome's Capitoline Museums have installed a high-tech service that uses Near Field Technology (NFC) to explain the history behind some of their 300 art works.
By holding NFC-supporting smartphones near the antennas on the plastic tags beside the artefacts, visitors can access website links providing additional information. Those without smartphones can borrow one of the 200 phones available from the ticket office.
The museum hopes that the new system will help to avoid situations where large groups gather around the more popular artefacts, blocking the view for others.
