Rome launches competition to design Garbatella logo.
Ahead of the centenary of Rome's Garbatella district in February 2020, the city has launched a competition to design a logo in celebration of the suburb's 100th anniversary.
The contest is to create an "original, innovative and inclusive" logo for the south Rome neighbourhood located between Via Ostiense and Via Cristoforo Colombo.
Designs must be submitted in digital format, accompanied by a short explanatory text, to garbatella100@comune.roma.it by 31 January 2019. For full details see city website.
Garbatella's upcoming celebrations mark the anniversary of the ground-breaking ceremony at the central Piazza Brin on 18 February 1920, an event presided over by Italy's King Victor Emanuel III.
Established originally to accommodate the families of workers in neighbouring Ostiense, Garbatella is popular today due to its distinctive architectural style and vibrant nightlife.
Garbatella was popularised in the 1993 movie Caro diario by Nanni Moretti who toured the area on his Vespa to the backdrop of the Leonard Cohen track I'm Your Man.
