Navigating Rome's traffic made easier with smartphone apps
Two new apps for commuters on Rome's public transport are being launched by the city's transport company ATAC and the capital's mobility agency, Muoversi a Roma.
Using the free apps, commuters can discover the best route by public transport or by bicycle. The Tempi di attesa option on the Viaggia con ATAC app allows commuters to find out the waiting times of buses and locates the nearest bus stops, while it is also possible to charge metrebus cards and pay for parking.
Selecting the Viabilità section on the Muoversi a Roma app, commuters can access the real-time traffic situation on 140 km of the city's major roads including bypasses and the Lungotevere. The News section covers road closures, street protests and strikes, while the ZTL section provides information on the city's limited traffic areas.
To use the service select Cerca Percorso which identifies the quickest route (bus, metro, tram and on foot) to reach a specific point in the city. Using Trova Linea, just enter the bus or tram number to access all the information of the route and the time it will take for the transport to arrive.
The Muoversi a Roma app can be downloaded for IOS (Apple), Android and Windows Phone 8, although for the moment the ATAC app is only available in Android.
