Three arrests for bribery in return for contracts.
Italy's anti-corruption agency (ANAC), headed by magistrate Raffaele Cantone, has arrested three people in Rome on charges of bribery in return for asphalting contracts to repair the city's roads. The arrests relate to contracts dating back to April this year.
Although road maintenance of the city's roads has been promised in time for the opening of the Holy Jubilee year on 8 December all contracts expired on 1 October. The process to assign new ones is underway, but time is now running short for road works to be completed before the jubilee year begins.
