S. Giovanni Metro C station will connect to Rome's Metro A line.
The S. Giovanni station of Rome’s third underground line Metro C should open to commuters in autumn 2017, according to the city's transport councillor Linda Meleo.
The S. Giovanni station will be crucial to the capital's overall underground network as it will connect Metro C with Metro A and the central Termini station.
Meleo says she has identified a "number of critical issues" responsible for slowing down the construction works at S. Giovanni station and that her department is working to resolve them as soon as possible. She expects the management of the new station to be handed over to Rome's public transport company ATAC in early 2017.
When it opens, S. Giovanni station will become the 22nd station on the driverless 18-km C line. The easternmost section opened in November 2014, with 15 stations from Pantano to Centocelle, while the second section was launched in July 2015, with six stations from Centocelle to Lodi, going towards S. Giovanni.
