Rome's Umberto I tunnel reopens
Rome's Umberto I tunnel reopened to day-time traffic and pedestrians on 30 January after a three-week closure for emergency repairs. The 350m-long tunnel, which opened in 1902 and connects Via Nazionale and Via del Tritone, closed on 7 January as a result of water infiltration that damaged part of the ceiling's plaster. The tunnel will close each night between 22.00-06.00 from Monday to Friday to allow maintenance to continue until the end of February.
