Royal candidate runs for election.
Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, the grandson of Umberto II, the last king of Italy, has announced that he will run for a position in parliament in the upcoming elections. He will run as a candidate for the chamber of deputies in the constituency of Italians abroad in Europe from the party he has created called Valori e Futuro.
Emanuele Filiberto was born and grew up in Switzerland. He lives in Geneva where he is a financial consultant. He first visited Italy in 2002 when an amendment was made to the Italian constitution lifting the ban that had prohibited male descendents of the House of Savoy entering Italy. Late last year, he and his father filed a lawsuit suing the Italian state seeking damages for the years in exile and confiscated property, which Emanuele Filiberto now says they will drop.
