S. Giacomo hospital closes for accidents and emergency.
One of the main hospital accident and emergency departments in the historic centre of Rome closed to the public on 6 October.
Just off the central Via del Corso and very close to Piazza del Popolo, the S. Giacomo A and E has been a point of reference for foreign residents and tourists in the historic centre for decades. Its closure, which is part of a remodernisation programme in the making for many years, leaves the historic centre without one of its most convenient A and E centres. The two hospitals with emergency services closest to the old S. Giacomo are S. Spirito, which is on Lungotevere near St Peter
