S. Lorenzo night-time traffic closure.
Rome city authorities have arrived at an agreement with the residents and shop and restaurant owners in the area of S. Lorenzo to close the zone to all but local traffic four nights a week after a successful experimental period of closure two nights a week. The area, which is close to La Sapienza university, will be closed from Wednesday to Saturday nights from 19 May until the end of July.
The area of narrow streets is a popular student quarter, and over the last few years the increase in people attracted by the active night-life has made for noisy night-time traffic jams.
To make S. Lorenzo accessible, ATAC ( the city public transport service) is providing a free night-time shuttle bus. It will leave every 10 minutes from the free parking area in Piazzale del Verano.
