Save on Christmas hampers
Rome's city council has launched another initiative in time for Christmas as part of its popular Romaspendebene campaign designed to contain prices. From now until Christmas 35 neighbourhood markets are selling seasonal "hamper-style" shopping bags filled with traditional Christmas goodies for 15. Contents will include items such as panettone, torrone (a kind of nougat), dried fruit and spumante. Dozens of supermarkets scattered across Rome are also selling the hampers containing seven products for the same price. Some of the most central locations participating in the scheme are the D per D supermarkets on Via del Ges 57-59 and Via Monterone 5, both not far from Largo di Torre Argentina, and the Testaccio neighbourhood market held every morning except Sundays in Piazza Testaccio. A full list of participating venues can be found on the city councils
website.
