Soldiers on the streets?
The new Berlusconi government has decided to set up a task force of 3,000 soldiers to supplement the regular police in certain areas of the country. The idea of using soldiers, in patrols together with Italian police or carabinieri has angered many in the opposition and led to charges that the government is seeking to militarize the country.
