Street art in Spagna metro station

Commuters greeted with lively murals

The Spagna metro station in Rome has become a free art gallery for commuters, thanks to the efforts of six street artists from France.

The corridors of the station most frequented by the city's tourists have been decorated with colourful designs by well-known French artists C215, Alexone, Espilonpoint, Popay, Seth and Philippe Baudelocque.

The project is the result of collaboration between Rome transport company ATAC and the street art association 999Contemporary, and was curated by the group's co-founder Stefano Antonelli.

The new murals coincide with the launch of the Regeneration series of ATAC bus tickets which feature designs by street artist Christian Guémy, better known as C215 or "France's answer to Banksy." The pack of ten tickets is on sale at ATAC offices at the discounted price of €14.
