Summer season bus schedules.
The Rome city bus company ATAC is changing bus routes and adding new buses to some routes on summer Sundays and holidays from 25 July until the end of September. Mauro Calamante, the president of ATAC, has announced that there will be five new express routes and changes to 44 existing routes. The changes, which are based on research into patterns of use, aim to cut wastage on routes that are used infrequently and to connect the city's suburbs and the historic centre more efficiently.
The new routes are the 120 express, from S. Basilio to Viale Washington, 130 express from Tor de Cenci to Piazzale Clodio, 150 express from Villagio Prenestino to Viale Washington, 180 express from Corviale to Viale Giulio Cesare, 190 express from Casalotti to Piazza Venezia, and the shuttle 221 from Piazza Azzarita to Largo Sperlonga.
The outstanding features are that there will be fewer stops on the new routes, that the buses will run every 15 minutes and that the new 190 express will allow passengers on board with their bicycles.
To promote the changes ATAC is offering digital cameras and 1,000 T-shirts to be won in a puzzle game Discovering Rome in the holiday season.
