Tightening up on recycling.
Rome has announced a new plan to tighten up on rubbish collection and to improve recycling. The large street containers for recycling glass, plastic and metal (blue) and paper (white) will be emptied every three days instead of once a week. Organic waste will be collected more frequently from fresh food markets, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and canteens. There will be a new Sunday collection for paper along 20 routes throughout the city.
At the same times there will be stricter controls on waste disposal. Special surveillance teams will patrol areas in the city where rubbish collection is a problem and they will be able to hand out fines to people caught not separating their rubbish into the right containers (from
