Italys transport trade unions have announced a national public transport strike on Friday 22 October from 08.30-17.00 and from 20.00-24.00. Normal services are only guaranteed between 04.10-08.29 and 17.00-20.00. The stoppage will affect buses, trams, metro, and regional train services.

The transport sectors workers, who are pushing for the renewal of their contracts, which expired on 31 December 2003, are asking for a wage increase, a reduction in hours and the possibility of part-time work.

There have been several all-day public strikes this year throughout Italy. The last was on 15 September.
