The Italian minister of the environment, Altero Matteoli, has announced that transport vouchers may soon be available in Rome. According to a scheme devised in agreement with Romes public transport company, ATAC, transport vouchers will be made available as part of an employees salary, in the same way that luncheon vouchers are now. The idea is to encourage the use of the public transport system. If the scheme is approved then vouchers will be exchangeable for single tickets on buses, trams and the metro, or used as a discount for season tickets.
