Vatican Museums provide tours for blind and deaf
The Vatican Museums have introduced new multi-sensory tours for the sight- and hearing-impaired. The tours take place two days a week for a maximum of eight people and include visits to the Raphael Rooms, the Sistine Chapel and the classical statues collection.
Aside from Italian sign language, the tour guides are proficient in British and French sign languages. The seven guides, five of whom are deaf, received specialised instruction in art history and archaeology at the museums.
On the tours for the visually-impaired, visitors are encouraged to touch copies of some of the most important works in the Vatican
