Veltroni sacks traffic police chief.
Rome mayor Walter Veltroni has asked the commander of the city traffic police, Giovanni Catanzaro, to step down from office after Catanzaro allegedly used a disabled permit that had been reported lost to park his car in a no-parking zone on 23 November. According to national daily newspaper Il Messaggero, the traffic police chief parked his Alfa Romeo in Via della Croce near the Spanish Steps at 20.00 in the evening as he went to a restaurant for dinner, leaving the disabled permit on view.
The permit had initially been issued to the 82-year-old mother of Catanzaro
