Work starts on Rome’s Termini metro interchange
Work is due to start on the interchange between metro lines A and B at Termini Station on 10 April.
Entrance to and exit from the metro lines will be affected. Access will only be available from two points: the lower floor of the Forum Termini shopping centre and the covered entrance in Piazza dei Cinquecento next to the Metropark car park. Travellers leaving both lines will need to use either the stairs leading up into the shopping centre or to the bus termini in Piazza dei Cinquecento, both on the Via Giolitti side, or the stairs exiting under the portico at the start of Via Cavour. The entrance and exit directions will also be reversed on the metro line A platforms.
There will be further changes as the work progresses in the coming months, which will be indicated by information posters and signs in the area. The work is being carried out to reduce crowding and improve safety for passengers on the escalators and in the corridors around the station. It includes widening corridors and exit points, installing new escalators, moving runways and lifts as well as improving lighting and anti-incendiary devices and materials. Work should be completed by the end of 2012. It will not affect services on the two metro lines.
