30 April-28 June 2005. Directed by Zubin Mehta, this festival stays with its successful formula of three operas, a good programme of symphonic and chamber music, and a ballet performed by the Maggiodanza company. Two exhibitions, one dedicated to Maria Callas and the other to costume designs and costume jewellery by Ebe Stignani, and the traditional concert in Piazza della Signoria at the end of the festival, complete the package. Operas include a new production of Puccinis Tosca conducted by Mehta and directed by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti (30 April-21 May 2005); Don Giovanni by Mozart, also conducted by Metha and directed by Jonathan Miller (8-22 May 2005); and a new Boris Gudonov by Mussorgsky conducted by Semyon Byckov and directed by the iconoclastic Lithuanian Eimuntas Nekrosius (17-28 June 2005).
