A German Dream - Masterpieces of Romanticism from the Nationalgalerie Berlin
16 Oct 2004 - 30 Jan 2005. This exhibition at the National Gallery of Ireland is the most important survey of German Romanticists ever to go on show in Dublin, featuring some 60 masterpieces from the Alte Nationalgalerie Berlin. The selected works, covering the period 1800 to 1860, document the development of German Romantic painting; from portraits and idealized landscapes of the age of Goethe to the passion, poetry and prose of late Romanticism. Among the artists represented are Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Carl Blechen, and Moritz von Schwind. The accompanying exhibition catalogue is edited by Dr Bernhard Maaz, with essays by Dr Birgit Verwiebe, Dr Brendan Rooney and Kristina Msl.
Tickets 10, 6 with concessions. The Thursday special rate is 6.
