A guide to a night out in S. Lorenzo

By Rachel Wertz

A trendier area of Rome, S. Lorenzo is home to Europe’s largest university, La Sapienza di Roma. Among other things, this area is popular due to the large presence of students. It is also a more budget friendly area of Rome. However its unique and wide variety of options for nightlife make it a promising destination for a night out in Rome.

The Victorian Monkey

The Victorian Monkey is a board game pub for locals and tourists alike. It offers group gaming events numerous times a week as well as individual games. From Scrabble to Settlers of Catan, to more mediaeval and war type of games, the Victorian Monkey provides something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to your choice of board game, the Victorian Monkey offers a typical pub-like menu with burgers, sandwiches, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks alike.

Opened in 2015, the owner’s vision for Victorian Monkey is to create and spread the game culture, one that is played together instead of through multimedia platforms. The Victorian Monkey believes that the best prize that a game can give is the time spent playing.

For more information about upcoming events see Facebook page. Via dello Scalo di S. Lorenzo 57. Mon-Sun 12.00-2.00.

The pairing of flavours and décor in the cocktails along with a wide variety of food is half of the experience at Blackmarket. It is also known for its live music from blues to jazz.

Blackmarket also has a sister location in Monti. It has successfully created a more relaxed, yet exciting environment and has brought diversity to nightlight in S. Lorenzo. Find out more information about upcoming events on the Blackmarket Facebook page. Via dei Sardi 50. Tues-Sun 21.30-03.30.

Ex Dogana has multiple different areas for club events and art exhibitions. It also provides a free-entry courtyard offering live music, DJ sets, a cocktail bar and street food, as well as Ping-Pong tables and foosball for when the weather becomes warmer.
