A Streetcar named Desire by Andr Previn goes on stage in Italy for the first time. Previns first opera, it premiered in San Francisco on 19 September 1998 with the composer conducting and Rene Fleming and Rodney Gilfrey in the lead roles. Reviewers have compared Previn to Richard Strauss but have criticised him for the lack of a more personal touch. This Turin production will be conducted by Steven Mercurio, with Barbara Haveman and Randal Turner in the lead roles. The opera will be sung in English.
