Fundraiser evening offers a culinary and musical taste of west Africa
21 Sept. The Joel Nafuma Refugee Center (JNRC) at the American Episcopal Church of Rome, St Paul’s Within the Walls, is holding an Afro-Fusion Dinner Fundraiser at 19.30 on 21 September. The chef for the evening is Issa Diallo, originally from Burkina Faso, who has lived in Italy for the last decade. His menu of Afro-Italian fusion food mixes the flavours of west Africa with Italian influences and ingredients. Adding a further taste of west African culture will be Kora Hero, a Kora musician from Senegal, and the Sewing Cooperative, a group of migrant tailors who recently held an installation at Galleria Sala 1.
The menu for the evening includes rice and Jabagi (a vegetable sauce from Burkina Faso); Attiéké (a type of couscous traditionally made from grated, fermented, and dried manioc root; Aloko (fried plantains with dipping sauce); beef and mozzarella oven bake; and salad with garlic mustard dressing.
The non alcoholic drinks include the spicy Ginger (Nyamacou) and Hibiscus Juice (Bissap), while there are also kids', vegetarian and gluten-free options.
The donations - which can be made at the door or online - are €20 for adults, €15 concessions and €10 for children under 10.
