Artisan market at Rome's Beehive Ho(s)tel

8 Nov. A new monthly Sunday market, in support of the innovative local economy and international community, takes place at the Beehive Ho(s)tel on Via Marghera on Sunday 8 November.

The market will feature organic Barikama yoghurt, made by west African migrants in Rome, and handicrafts by the Artisans Together group from the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center, as well as books and homemade almond and peanut butters.

The Artisans Together offer hand-crafted items, for a suggested donation, in order to heal from past trauma and rebuild independent lives in Rome, while advocating for refugees and educating others about the reality of their situation. The artisans share 90 per cent of profits among themselves and voluntarily donate 10 per cent back to the JNRC to help it meet the ongoing needs of the more than 200 guests who depend on the centre for daily assistance, sanctuary and support.

Organisers intend the market to be a regular monthly event, and potential future vendors are asked to contact Jill Rios, at jriosroma@gmail.com.

An autumn-inspired vegetarian lunch, based around chestnuts and porcini mushrooms, will be also available to market-goers, by reserving at jriosroma@gmail.com.
