Aterballetto
In Workwithinwork/Le Sacre, choreography by William Forsythe and Mauro Bigonzetti. Italy’s prime modern dance company with a strong academic base has many works by the American choreographer William Forsythe in its repertory. In this double bill the company, led by Bigonzetti, tackles a work with music by Berio. The technically challenging piece is a good example of why Forsythe has changed the way we look at, and think about, classical dance. The director of Germany’s Ballett Frankfurt for 20 years, Forsythe is credited with almost single-handedly leading ballet into the 21st century. His innovative and often provocative works push the body to new extremes, physically challenging the dancers while intellectually playing with audiences.
