Berlin Jazz Festival 2004.
4-7 Nov 2004. This 40th anniversary edition of the Berlin Jazz Festival is dedicated to the creative people and artists who have made it what it is today. Homages run throughout this year's programme even if not necessarily labelled as such. As in 1964, its founding year, names like Zbigniew Namyslowski, Albert Mangelsdorff, a brass band from New Orleans and even Coleman Hawkins are on the bill alongside Michael Blake and Jan von Klewitz (of Yakou Tribe), both born in the same year. Other tributes recall Fats Waller, Eric Dolphy and Billy Higgins. As well as the blasts from the past, the festival also lends eye and ear to contemporary and multicultural subjects based on modern Holland (Reijsegers Systme D, and Boi Akih, amongst others) and England (Acoustic Ladyland, Dennis Rollins). The main hall of the Philharmonie will once again host the JazzFest while the Kulturbrauerei joins as a new venue.
