Best DJs in Rome this weekend

In Italy we say: ‘A Carnevale ogni scherzo vale’ which means ‘Every joke is permitted at Carnival time’! Next weekend is not going to be a joke though.

‘Fat’ Thursday is a north American affair. From midwest USA, false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZevCDH9bdo">DVS1 (Zak Khutoretsky is the real name) will perform at Goa Club (introduced by the resident dj Giancarlino) with his simple but hypnotizing techno. He published records with Ben Klock’s record label Klockworks and he also promotes many events especially in US.

Canadian (but with Iranian origins) false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QYdqbxeBGo">DJ Amirali will perform at Rashomon Club. Despite his young age and just one album published (In Town for Crosstown Rebels record label), he has already played in the most important clubs in the world (Panorama Bar, Watergate, Lovebox). His style is a mix of house, techno, instrumental and vocals, reminding of Nicolas Jaar for some tracks. Definitely original.

Friday’s superstar is false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=605bwlAz_iQ">Nina Kraviz, Russian DJ (and also producer) coming from cold Siberia. You can see her stunning beauty and listen to her soft techno (probably with some vocals) at Warehouse. She released many singles and just one LP (self titled) but already very famous worldwide. In the same night there will be false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBcJn_-44Uc">Radio Slave, English DJ and producer, already Ministry of Sound resident, he’s famous for his remixes and re-edits.

Still from UK, false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_thCdMkeAgc"> Mark Broom will perform at Goa Club for the night ‘Resistance is Techno’. He started in early 90s and now is a big name not only of the European scene. If you want to explore a deeper sound (not moving from the UK) you don’t need to change place because false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJdFz2KK2rU">Perc is also performing the same night. His record label Perc Trax was ‘label of the month’ recently (December 2011).

false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxj70WH3pbA">L-Ektrica night at Lanificio 159 also comes back this weekend with false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za4sY7fmIis">Andrew Weatherall, long career divided from being resident DJ at Fabric, producer of  Screamadelica (best Primal Scream LP) and collaborations with The Chemical Brothers, New Order, My Bloody Valentine and many others.

Finally (for Friday) false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9Y07LCvSq8">San Proper is performing at Rashomon Club for the night ‘Save the Blessed Showcase’. From Holland underground scene, he’s a very eclectic artist and published with important record labels like Rush Hour and Perlon.

As often happens after so many Friday events, Saturday is a more ‘relaxed’ night. My first suggestion is for false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_BZwuCcukE">Kenny Larkin (Cadenza records, Luciano’s record label), American DJ from the new generation of Detroit techno. So if you mix the words Detroit+techno+Cadenza you know already what to expect. His most important work is Azimuth LP published with Warp records, another label equivalent to great music.

It doesn’t happens very often to promote Italian DJs but this time I will since false;" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUpIEWKDbnQ">Pirupa is a very good one. He performed in very important clubs (Ministry of Sound, Pacha, Cielo, Social Club and many others) as well in festivals (Sonar, Winter Music Conference) and his songs were remixed by many important DJs (Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Dubfire for example). You cand find him at Saponeria Club.

I told you, it’s not a joke at all.
