Brendan Behan remembered in Rome
Rome's oldest Irish pub, the Fiddler's Elbow, presents "There's no place on Earth like the World", an evening in memory of Brendan Behan, on Tuesday 25 March at 20.00.
The event includes readings of works by the novelist, poet, playwright, singer, hell-raiser, rogue and colourful Dublin character who memorably described himself as "a drinker with a writing problem."
Participants in the event include scholars Míchéal MacCraith, Conor Fitzgerald, John McCourt and Italy's foremost expert on Behan, Enrico Terrinoni.
There will also be live Irish music by Micky Martin and an Irish buffet will be served.
The Rome event takes place on the 50th anniversary of Behan's death, an occasion marked in Ireland with the launch of a commemorative postage stamp in Behan's honour.
