British School at Rome screens silent movie about Julius Caesar
Rome screening of silent Caesar movie accompanied by live music by concert pianist.
7 May. The British School at Rome presents a live screening of the rarely-seen yet remarkable Italian silent feature film Julius Caesar or Cajus Julius Caesar, from 17.30-20.00 on Tuesday 7 May.
The film, brought to Rome specially from the archives of the Netherlands Film Institute, will be accompanied by an original score composed for the occasion by the noted concert pianist and composer Michele Sganga.
Caesar’s life is presented in three movements: first romantic melodrama (his secret love for the beautiful Servilia); then triumph (victory in Gaul); and finally tragedy (his death in Rome).
