27 June. The British ambassador to Italy Jill Morris hosted a concert performed by The Chineke! Foundation at Villa Wolkonsky on 27 June.
The Chineke! Chamber Ensemble, with Chi-chi Nwanoku MBE, double bass, and Elizabeth Llewellyn, soprano, presented a programme of English Song & Schubert’s Trout Quintet to an audience comprising more than 200 people from the Italian and international, academic and musical world in Rome.
The Chineke! Foundation is a non-profit organisation which has been established to provide career opportunities to young Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) classical musicians in the UK and Europe. The Chineke! Orchestra comprises exceptional musicians from across the continent, drawn together multiple times per year.
Chi-chi Nwanoku is the founder, artistic and executive director of the Chineke! Foundation. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music and with Franco Petracchi in Rome, and soon found herself in demand internationally.
The British embassy is planning for the Chinneke! Foundation to return in November.
