Chris Wilkinson: Thinking through drawing
5-26 July. The British School at Rome hosts an exhibition dedicated to the architect Chris Wilkinson RA, comprising 30 years of his architectural drawings, watercolours and sketchbooks.
The exhibition, which comes to Rome from the Royal Academy in London, reveals the architect's passionate belief in the importance of drawing by hand, particularly during an age dominated by digital media, in the development of a design.
The sketches on display illustrate his designs and thought processes in relation to four projects in the UK, from initial site studies and early concept stages to design development and construction.
The projects include the Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth; Maggie's Centre, Oxford; the Kings Cross Gasholders, London; and the new Dyson Campus in Malmesbury.
